Synod Youth Ministry

As churches begin to plan their church calendar for the New Year, I would like to take this opportunity to introduce the events that the Synod Youth Ministry will be organizing for 2006. Many have asked me what the Synod Youth Ministry can provide for the churches. Primarily, we hope to utilize these events as a time of fellowship among youths and youth leaders in the greater body of Christ. Simply, there are three types of events to cater for different groups of members in our ministry.

Firstly, we have the Youth Get Together (YGT) events which are specially designed for the general youths across the churches, mainly mass-participation activities like the games month in Jun, youth worship rally in Jul, and PCS Flag Day participation in Aug.

Secondly, we also have Youth Leaders Get Together (YLGT) events which are organized for mainly youth leaders from ages 18 and above. These are groups of youths who are in some form of leadership role in the youth ministry in church. We hope to use these events to equip and develop our youth leaders for the next generation. Examples are like the youth leaders adventure camp in Jan, EP mission convention with a specific youth track in Jul, and a youth forum in Sep.

The third category is the Youth Mentors Get Together (YMGT), which only occur twice in a year. This is a time of fellowship and prayer among the leaders-mentors in our youth ministry, mainly youth advisors, youth coordinators, youth pastors and youth workers. They will be held during the students’ exam breaks in May and Nov.

Last but not least, the most important event for next year in our calendar is our Presbyterian Church in Singapore 125th Anniversary Celebration at the National Indoor Stadium on 23 Apr 2006. The Synod Youth Ministry has been asked to present a mass dance coordination sequence during the worship under the direction of Doc John Lustre of Prinsep Street Presbyterian Church. We are currently appealing to churches for participation in this dance item of about 300 youths and another 200 youths to sing together with the main choir under the choral and orchestral direction of Mr. Lim Soon Lee who is the conductor for the NUS youth orchestra.

We hope that you would try your best to set aside these dates and encourage your youth and youth leaders to participate in these events.

Thank you and God Bless!

In Christ,

Wilson Tan
