Visit Bible Society of Singapore for some interesting facts about Narnia and the Bible.

Edit: Wow, we actually had a turn-up of 256 youths and young adults watching Narnia together in two cinemas at Plaza Singapura last week (27 Dec 2005)! It was great...and we hope to organise more of these sort of events. Keep tuned!

PCS 125th Anniversary Celebration

As most of you would know, the Presbyterian Church in Singapore will be celebrating her 125th Anniversary in April next year. It is indeed a joyous occasion, not only to celebrate our unity in the body of Christ, but also to celebrate God’s sustaining grace upon our Presbyterian Church for so many years. And although the exact wording of our theme for next year is yet to be finalized, its emphasis would be on looking forward to the future.

Thus, it is our hope that the youths of our churches would play a more significant role in this worship celebration. We are hoping for about 300 youths from various churches to participate in three main areas: 1) a choreographic dance which is to be part of the entire worship celebration and, 2) a further 200 youths to be part of the combined choir and, 3) a combined orchestra. The dances will be choreographed by Dr. John Lustre, youth worker of Prinsep Presbyterian Church; while the choir and orchestra will be conducted by Mr. Lim Soon Lee, SSO conductor for the Youth Orchestra with help from various choir conductors of various churches.

1. DANCE

The dancers will perform a tambourine dance to the hymn, “THE KINGDOM, POWER AND GLORY FOREVER” finale, and an on-stage dance item to the hymn, “I WILL PRAISE HIM”. No previous dance experience is needed, but basic hand-eye coordination skills would be much appreciated. The on-stage performers will be selected from a group of 300 participants. Before the dance rehearsal commences, Dr. John would like to invite interested youths to participate in a Mime and Interpretative Dance Workshop and a Tambourine Workshop as scheduled below (at no cost).

Participants must have their own Tambourines (or Hard Plastic Plates if they don’t have Tambourines yet)

The TAMBOURINE PATTERNS will be handed to the churches so that they can practice on their own depending on their availability in the months of January and February. Dr. John shall schedule a separate rehearsal for the mimes and dancers for the hymn “I WILL PRAISE HIM” choreography.

Synod Youth Leaders’ Adventure Camp 2006

Come next year, the Synod Youth Ministry will be expanding its present ministry to include the task of equipping our youth leaders for the next generation. We would like to invite youth leaders (of schooling age) and even youth pastors, workers and mentors (of no age limit) to participate in this Synod Youth Leaders’ Adventure Camp on 20 - 21 Jan 2006.

Any one serving in ministry would know the importance of building a strong team in our church. Likewise in the youth ministry today, the foundation of team-work is not to be ignored. The analogy of the body of Christ in 1 Cor 12:12-26 speak of a partnership that encourages interconnectivity and interdependence. We hope that this adventure camp will be an opportunity for youth leaders to learn more about leadership and team-work in the Christian perspective. Thus, the theme for this camp is “How should we build a ministry team in our church?”

Please submit your names to your youth coordinators in your church, alternatively, email me your application form to wilson@presbysing.org.sg, or fax to 63394076 by 3 Jan 2006 (dateline for registration).

Date : 20 - 21 Jan 2006

Application Fee : $15 (cash payment upon registration, meals will be provided)

Time period : Friday (5pm) to Sat (7:30pm), please bring your own sleeping bags for those sleeping over

Venue : Jubilee Church, 256 Outram Road, S(169053)

With best of regards,

Synod Youth Ministry

As churches begin to plan their church calendar for the New Year, I would like to take this opportunity to introduce the events that the Synod Youth Ministry will be organizing for 2006. Many have asked me what the Synod Youth Ministry can provide for the churches. Primarily, we hope to utilize these events as a time of fellowship among youths and youth leaders in the greater body of Christ. Simply, there are three types of events to cater for different groups of members in our ministry.

Firstly, we have the Youth Get Together (YGT) events which are specially designed for the general youths across the churches, mainly mass-participation activities like the games month in Jun, youth worship rally in Jul, and PCS Flag Day participation in Aug.

Secondly, we also have Youth Leaders Get Together (YLGT) events which are organized for mainly youth leaders from ages 18 and above. These are groups of youths who are in some form of leadership role in the youth ministry in church. We hope to use these events to equip and develop our youth leaders for the next generation. Examples are like the youth leaders adventure camp in Jan, EP mission convention with a specific youth track in Jul, and a youth forum in Sep.

The third category is the Youth Mentors Get Together (YMGT), which only occur twice in a year. This is a time of fellowship and prayer among the leaders-mentors in our youth ministry, mainly youth advisors, youth coordinators, youth pastors and youth workers. They will be held during the students’ exam breaks in May and Nov.

Last but not least, the most important event for next year in our calendar is our Presbyterian Church in Singapore 125th Anniversary Celebration at the National Indoor Stadium on 23 Apr 2006. The Synod Youth Ministry has been asked to present a mass dance coordination sequence during the worship under the direction of Doc John Lustre of Prinsep Street Presbyterian Church. We are currently appealing to churches for participation in this dance item of about 300 youths and another 200 youths to sing together with the main choir under the choral and orchestral direction of Mr. Lim Soon Lee who is the conductor for the NUS youth orchestra.

We hope that you would try your best to set aside these dates and encourage your youth and youth leaders to participate in these events.

Thank you and God Bless!

In Christ,

Wilson Tan
